Books Worth Reading This Summer

15:15

Hey,
Summer has now officially begun and for me that means more time to read! This summer I want to read as many books as I can because when the next school year starts in September, things will be full on and I will therefore have little time to read.
So today I want to recommend 10 books to you that you could read this summer. I have either already read the following books, are currently reading them, or will be reading them this summer. However I am not going to recommend any books to you if I do not think they are worth your time reading.

The following books are all under the young-adult genre, as that is what I mostly read. However I have put them into their other genres, so if you are looking for a book in a particular genre this should make life a little easier for you.

Young-Adult, Contemporary, Mystery:
1) Paper Towns by John Green
About the book - Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back into his life — dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge — he follows.
After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. Q soon learns that there are clues — and they have been left for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees of the girl he thought he once knew.

I absolutely love this book, I did a book review on it here if you want to read about my thoughts on the book.

2) Heist Society (This is the 1st book in the series) by Ally Carter
About the book - When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie travelled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.
Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to drag Kat back into the world she tried to escape from. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.
For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family's history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.

This is the first book in one of my favourite series by my favourite author - Ally Carter. So how could I not recommend this book?! I obviously recommend the rest of the books in the series however it is best to read the first one first - see my logic there?

3) We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
About the book -
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

This book is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from the National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honouree E. Lockhart. I haven't read this book yet but I have only heard great things about it. We were liars is on my list of books to try and read this summer and I have very high expectations of the novel.

Young-Adult, Romance, Contemporary:

4) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
About the book - Despite the tumour-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

If you haven't heard of this book then where have you been?! The Fault in Our Stars is an incredible book and movie. It changes the way you think about life and death and is funny and sad all at once. The characters have so much depth to them and the story is incredibly capturing. If you haven't read this book then please do! It's such an incredible book and I haven't met anyone who thought badly of it.

5) Adorkable by Sarra Manning
About the book - Jeane Smith is a blogger, a dreamer, a dare-to-dreamer, a jumble sale queen, CEO of her own lifestyle brand and has half a million followers on twitter.
Michael Lee is a star of school, stage and playing field. A golden boy in a Jack Wills hoodie.
They have nothing in common but a pair of cheating exes, you'll have to read the book to find out what happens!

This book is so funny and has plot twists around every corner. The book is written really well and is told from both characters which gives a really interesting perspective of the story line as you get to see what each character is feeling.

6) Saving Wishes by G.J. Walker-Smith
About the book - For Charli Blake, being seventeen is a tough gig. She's been branded a troublemaker, her reputation is in tatters and she's stuck in Pipers Cove, a speck of a town on the coast of Tasmania.
Thankfully, it's temporary. Her lifelong dream of travelling the world is only months away from becoming reality. All she has to do is ride out the last few months of high school, which is easier said than done thanks to a trio of mean girls who are known as 'The Beautifuls'.
When Adam Décarie arrives in town, all the way from New York, life takes an unexpected turn. His arrival sets off a chain of events that alters her life forever, convincing her of one thing. Fate brought him to her.
Saving Wishes is the story of a teenage girl who doesn't quite fit the life she's living, and the boy who helps her realise why.

I haven't read this book yet but I am planning on reading it this summer. I have read lots of great reviews on this book on Goodreads and on Amazon and I am really looking forward to reading this book.

Young-Adult, Psychology, Mystery:

7) So Much To Tell You by John Marsden
About the book - Scarred, literally, by her past, Marina has withdrawn into silence. Then, at her new boarding school, she is set the task of writing a diary by her English teacher, and finds a way of expressing her thoughts and feelings and of exploring the traumatic events that have caused her distress over the years. Through Marina's diary you gain an insight into life on her dormitory and her difficult relationship with her father. Eventually, Marina makes tentative friendships and, in a moving denouement, is reconciled with her father.

I read this book quite a while ago and absolutely loved it. So much to tell you is really well written and allows the reader to step inside Marina's traumatized mind. The only complaint I have about this book is its length - it's quite short and I would have loved for it to be longer. Nonetheless, I really recommend you read this as it is such a great book.

8) Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson
About the book - 'As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I'm still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me...'
Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love — all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story.
Welcome to Christine's life...

I am currently reading this book and I can honestly say it is one of the best books I have ever read. It explores the concept of memory and how memories define us. The book is told from Christine's point of view and is extremely well written. When I first picked up this book I was worried that it would be annoyingly repetitive as it is told from the point of view of an amnesiac. However very little is repeated which allows the story to continue.

Young-Adult, Romance:
9) Small Blue Thing (1st book of the trilogy) by S.C. Ransom
About the book - Celebrating the end of exams with her best friend Grace, 17-year-old Alex rescues a swan caught in wire in the Thames mud and finds an extraordinary bracelet. Through its disturbing and compelling powers, she finds Callum, a soul locked in a half-life of sadness and mystery following a terrible accident, and his persuasive and sinister sister, Catherine. As Alex and Callum grow closer despite the enormous obstacles to their love, the dangers mount until Alex must risk everything to save Grace and Callum must risk everything to save Alex

I read this book over a year ago but the storyline has stayed with me. For me it was a very easy read but enjoyable nonetheless. I have read the whole trilogy and all the books are good, easy reads; perfect for summer.

10) Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher
About the book - Sophie May has a secret. One that she’s successfully kept for years. It’s meant that she’s had to give up her dreams of going to university and travelling the world to stay in her little village, living with her mum and working in the local teashop.
But then she meets the gorgeous Billy – an actor with ambitions to make it to the top. And when they fall in love, Sophie is whisked away from the comfort of her life into Billy’s glamorous – but ruthless – world.
Their relationship throws Sophie right into the spotlight after years of shying away from attention. Can she handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy? And most of all, is she ready for her secret heartbreak to be discovered and shared with the nation?

I haven't yet read this book however it is definitely on my reading list for this summer. I have heard so many great things about this book and Giovanna Fletcher - the author. I'm so excited to read this book as I have been looking for some fun chick-lit to read recently.

So these are my 10 book recommendations for the summer.

Hopefully you don't find this post too long! I hope you read some of the books I have recommended to you. Let me know in the comments if you have read any of these books and let me know what you thought of them as I would love to know.
